Toyota Land Cruiser’s Heritage in the UAE: A Story of Power and Prestige

The Toyota Land Cruiser has long been a symbol of power, endurance, and luxury in the UAE.

We know that the Toyota Land Cruiser is one of the best SUVs in the world; it is highly reliable, serving as both a family SUV and an off-road powerhouse. This monster carries its own legacy worldwide, but Dubai or the UAE have a special connection because the legendary rugged dunes area and rolling city streets – Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah – make the monster SUV a legacy and deeply mix it into the national automotive industry.

Legacy of theToyota Land Cruiser

Do know that Toyota’s flagship 4x4 makes cars for the army? Japanese engineers make off-road masters because we know the army travels in difficult terrains, but surprisingly, it was made after WWII and during the Korean War. This means Japanese engineers make lightweight and unifying cars. In 1950, during the Korean War, the US Army wanted lightweight 4x4 Jeep-type cars, so Toyota made the BJ "called the S prototype model, and the US Army officially used this B1 model car. Then, in 1951, Toyota started producing the BJ model commercially and in 1954 made the official name the Toyota Land Cruiser.

This strategic move not only addressed the local need for robust vehicles but also aligned with the UAE's growing automotive market, solidifying Al-Futtaim's position as a key player in the region's automobile industry.

Doimance in UAE Market

By 2010, the Land Cruiser held a strong position in the UAE’s large SUV market, making up 53% of the segment. At its peak, sales hit nearly 1,000 units a month — a clear sign of how much people in the UAE trusted and preferred the Land Cruiser for both city roads and desert adventures.
